Load Transmission and Displacement in the Cervical Spine

The study’s specific aims will demonstrate the loads and the amount of displacement that occurs across each vertebral segment and the hydrostatic pressure within each intervertebral disc. The clinical significance of this research is that the study will show whether the loads and displacements experienced in the cervical spine undergoing various loading situations, and whether the loads and displacements experienced exceed the mechanical properties of the tissue attachments to the cervical spine. This understanding will enable clinicians to treat these injuries more effectively and appropriately thereby decreasing the morbidity experienced with this injury.
