OVERVIEW

Work conducted at the Materials Performance & Failure Analysis Laboratory is in support of  research, teaching and service activities in the following areas:

  1. Residual stress measurement and analysis
  2. Root-cause failure analysis of engineering materials and components
  3. High strain-rate, High heating-rate deformation characterization 
  4. Tribology - measurement / analysis of friction and slip resistance of walkway surfaces
  5. Hail Impact Damage Assessment on Roofing Materials and Aerospace Components
  6. Finite element modeling of large deformations and explosive loading
  7. Non-Destructive Evaluation (Ultrasonic, X-ray, Optical and Scanning Electron Microscopy)
  8. Mechanical Metallurgy
