Whitacre Endowed Chair in Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas Tech University is seeking candidates for the inaugural Whitacre Endowed Chair.  Candidates are expected to have demonstrated continued success in research related to all aspects of mechanical engineering.  Exceptional junior and mid-career faculty are encouraged to apply. The scope of the search is broad and the department is interested in candidates with expertise in emerging technologies in areas such as, but not limited to, energy, nanotechnology and MEMS, bioengineering, biomechanics, biomimetics, biomaterials, soft-matter, advanced materials, nanomaterials, computational methods, robotics, and multi-agent control.  Candidates are expected to currently administer research grants that can be transferred to Texas Tech University. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, externally funded research program with significant potential for national impact, and will be expected to be a leader in his/her research area.  A Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or in a related field is required. Experience in a mechanical engineering curriculum is preferred.  Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to work with a diverse body of students and colleagues are necessities. Duties will include quickly establishing a vibrant research program, teaching and developing mechanical engineering undergraduate and graduate courses, and performing service to the department, college, and university.

Texas Tech University is part of the comprehensive state-supported Texas Tech University System.  Texas Tech University has an enrollment of 32,000 students and includes 12 academic colleges. The campus also features the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Presently, there are 28 faculty members in the mechanical engineering department conducting research funded by federal, state, and local government agencies, industry and institutes. The mechanical engineering department has 1100 undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to the department’s ample research and teaching facilities, the Reese Technology Center is available for additional research laboratory space. Texas Tech also houses an advanced High Performance Computing Center and is establishing a state-of-the-art materials characterization lab. Texas Tech is supportive of multidisciplinary research.  Lubbock is a community of 270,000 people, with a cost of living index that has historically been low compared to national norms. The city hosts frequent musical, theatrical, and sporting events and a range of outdoor activities. Other activities, including snow and water skiing, are easily accessible by car.

Faculty Position in Mechanical Engineering – Texas Tech University

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas Tech University is seeking candidates for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. The scope of the search is broad and we are interested in candidates with expertise in emerging technologies in areas such as, but not limited to, energy, nanotechnology and MEMS, bioengineering, biological and soft materials and other advanced materials, computational methods, and multi-agent control.  Candidates need to demonstrate strong potential in scholarship and in securing extramural funding. A PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a PhD in a related field is required. Experience in a Mechanical Engineering curriculum is preferred.  Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to work with a diverse body of students and colleagues are necessities. Duties will include teaching and developing ME undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of expertise, maintaining an externally funded research program with extensive involvement of graduate and undergraduate students, and performing service to the department, college, and university.

Presently, there are 26 faculty members conducting research funded by Federal, State, and Local government agencies, industry and institutes. The ME department has 1100 undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to our ample research and teaching facilities, the off-campus Reese Technology Center is available to increase research laboratory space.
