ME 3165 Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics Lab
Welcome to our class website. I hope that you will be able to find the information that you seek by clicking on the links to the left. If not, don't hesitate to contact me by email or telephone (contact info is provided on the policies page).
Here is our syllabus.
CFD and Turbulence
Here is an excellent introduction to the thorny issues turbulence poses for CFD simulation.
National Committee for Fluid Mechanics Films
Here is a link to a famous and excellent series of educational films about fluid mechanics. These were made in the early 1960s. Not only do they tell us a lot about fluid mechanics, but also they are a window into the scientific culture of the times. I find them mesmerizing for both the subject matter and the presentation.
The film on turbulence is particularly relevant to the pipe flow study we are undertaking. It approaches our problem from an experimental point of view.
I urge you to give these movies a try (I think you need Realplayer to view them)!
Win One Million Dollars!
Think no one cares about the Navier-Stokes equations? A foundation in Cambridge, Massachusetts will give you one million dollars if you make just a little progress toward solving the turbulence problem.
